Ski Touring Basics

Ski touring in the backcountry is booming. Taking your snow adventure off-piste you can enjoy the peace, nature, and wide open and undisturbed landscapes. The effort put into the ascent is paid back and more with the joy of the first turn in fresh soft powder.

THE CLINIC:
In this clinic, we give you the first insight into the world of ski touring. We start with an overview of the variety of necessary equipment and its handling, learn an efficient walking technique “on tour” and enjoy the altitude meters we gained in the ascent by riding back down.

 

EDUCATIONAL GOALS:

# Overview of the gear and differentiation between on-piste touring, ski touring, free touring

# Efficient walking technique with touring skis, from bow-shaped skin tracks to kick-turns

# Correct skin tracking

# Standard techniques in the backcountry

# Basics of avalanche rescue

 

LEVEL:  Beginners, participation only with touring skis

Ascent: Physical condition for approx. 2 h ascent with touring skis (approx. 600 hm)

Descent: Safe and controlled skiing on black slopes must be mastered. Off-piste experience is an advantage.

 

GEAR / EQUIPMENT:

# Complete ski touring equipment (touring skis, skins, touring ski boots, poles), emergency equipment (avalanche transceiver, probe, shovel)

The meeting point is at 9 am at the Freeride Village. Welcome from your guide. Equipment and safety check. Ascent with the lift, check of skiing skills, followed by the workshop that will be held on-piste and off-piste. You will learn the correct and efficient walking technique from professionals in various practice sessions on tour. Lunch break on the mountain/optionally in a restaurant. Insights into emergency management and tips for avalanche equipment. Return to the Freeride Village at around 3 pm.
